Moving and informative. Nectar in a Sieve, is the struggle between life and death in a poor society. Kamala Markandaya tries really hard to make the readers relate and actually feel the suffer of the characters. She uses alot of descriptions but yet again she makes it simple and easy to understand and relate to another culture.

A well written story that highlights the everyday struggles of the rural poor of India.

Probably the most moving book I have ever read.  Noticing it on my bookshelf today brought back memories of the intense scenery, images, and characters.  The moving story line incorporates the powers of colonialism and the powers of divided caste system societies into a simple women's story.I love the book.
