I was brought up on the old TV series from the 60s about The Invisible Man and of course he was a 'good guy' so I wasn't prepared for the psychopath that is the central character for this novel. The novel is not well developed - an interesting supposition and plot mind you and in many ways ahead of its time.

I don't like books in which you can't identify with the main character. Wells probably intended to explore the darker aspects of human nature the horrid things that people can do, but the invisible man is pathologically mean; and kind of stupid too, despite his unlikely successes in the lab.
That's what I get for reading random books I find in my boyfriend's mom's house, I guess.
Considering the era in which it was written the imagining of this book is mind blowing. Wells's setting of extraordinary events around ordinary humans and the fallout this causes is extremely effective and the corruption of the title character by his ability coupled with the price he has to pay for it all combine in quite a tragic tale.
Makes you think but don't be expecting a cheerful...more
