H.G. Wells was ahead of his time. The book has an underlying theme and speculation from economics to race. Re-read it every couple years and you will always catch something new.

quite a fantastical story!! good to read the old classics from time to time. (no pun intended :)

One of my favorite books. Enjoy reading this.

I wasn't expecting much from this, but found it interesting for its class commentary, use of Darwin's evolutionary theory, and its obvious influence on later science fiction. The Time Traveler is a weirdly inconsistent character--sometimes the voice of reason, sometimes completely brutal, sometimes awed by the future he stumbles upon, sometimes disdainful of it. While this certainly isn't William Gibson or Philip K. Dick, I think it's safe to say that their work wouldn't be possible without it.   hide

Wells is a tougher re-read than he is the first time through when the story drags you along. Second time around, I stopped to think through stuff... and felt the underlying cynicism and melancholy of the author that much more deeply. It was almost like reading a different book!
