It was okay. I didn't love it. Close to the end I pretty much just forced myself to finish it. After a while I really didn't care to much about all the petty little problems. The plot wasn't very strong, and when an author tries to write a book like that the characters have to be really interesting and there has to be something going an at all times or it gets boring. It was okay. I didn't love it. Close to the end I pretty much just forced myself to finish it. After a while I really didn't care to much about all the petty little problems. The plot wasn't very strong, and when an author tries to write a book like that the characters have to be really interesting and there has to be something going an at all times or it gets boring. It was okay. Maybe if I read it when I was younger I would have liked it better, because I read it in 6th grade, and I found it babyish, but my mom read it when she was younger and loved it. If you're wondering wether to read it I'd say try it out and see of its for you.   hide

I read this book because it is a classic. And because of that, I didn't want to quit reading even though it was boring and annoying. I've read the whole book, and I'm now allowed to dislike it! The story was okay; four young girls making a living with their mother, while their father is at war. The friendship among them and to the boy next door is as good as it gets. The way they care for each other is something every living being would want. This little family is perfect, and so is their relation to the neighbors. But first of all; nothing really happens in the book. I usually kind of like the glimpse of an ordinary life. And I could've liked this novel too, but it gets boring especially when you add all the morality speeches at the end of each chapter. I don't mind a little moral, but it should've been toned down a notch. The characteristics of the girls were not good enough for me. Even after reading the whole 305 pages, I barely knew who was who. I'm not even sure what kind of boy Laurie was, and he was the only boy in the book. I didn't care that much for the language in the book either. Maybe I shouldn't say too much about this, since English is my second language, but I do have an opinion on this matter. I thought the language was a little too easy and way too old fashioned. The words were unusual for me, and the sentences were plain. I didn't read a single sentence or quote worth remembering. All in all, I did not like the book. I'm not sure whether to give the book 1 star (hate) or 2 (dislike), but as there are worse books out there I've landed on two stars.   hide

Little Women truly shows the emotion of young girls growing up, it also showed sister's and there love for each other, but also the fights with sisters. I loved how it really did tell the story of a young teenage girl. Although it was written in a different period of time any teenage girl can read this book and see themselves in it. It is for me a "must read" book.   hide

It is a fable of unconditional love to the family. I have a hard time to finish the book because it is too boring and not too convincing why all sisters were so kind and loving each others when they grew old (providing that I don't have sisters but two brothers in the house). This is a classic when you read it as a kid, but it may not be a great book to me as an adult. I am also not sure whether the kids nowadays would still believe this in reality, there are (particularly in Chinese) lots of nasty siblings who steal money from families, being a bump to laze around in parent's house or ask for freebies from their hardworking siblings.   hide

I think I'll vote for Amy as "best improvement", but Jo won my heart. She is the one I can identify with, not only because she really comes alive in the book, but by her...more

I think I'll vote for Amy as "best improvement", but Jo won my heart. She is the one I can identify with, not only because she really comes alive in the book, but by her relationship with Teddy. I had one of those when I was a teenager (with a sadder but similar ending). I recommend this book, not only as a classic, but also as a fun read.   hide
