After reading all of her vampire and witch books, I decided to go back and read every one of her published novels beginning with her earliest stuff first. This is the third of the non-vampire/witch books I've read and it is certainly one of the more interesting books. There is story, adventure, suspense, thrill, and highlighting this is S&M in all of it's glory. Well, the non-blood type.
Certainly a "must read" for any Anne Rice completionist, but definitely not something I'd recommend to a casual Anne reader.
To sum up the story, Sleeping Beauty is awakened after a hundred years by a Crown Prince. Not with a kiss, mind you, but with a "forced entry." As the kingdom is awakened, the Prince informs her parents that he has claimed her and will take her to his castle for improvements... which include all sorts of sexual exploits, demeanities, and tortures in graphic detail. Again, there is no blood - all S&M is mostly centered around various forms of spanking. If you decide to read this, brace yourself.
