Because the book is narrated by a young boy, Reverte tones down his normal artful writing style but still manages to find an amazing level of elegance (and that's translated, a fact that never ceases to amaze me).
Captain Alatriste will certainly be as closed and intriguing and quietly passionate as all of Reverte's other characters, and I am looking forward to continuing this series.
