Brilliant black humour about Russian character… Excellent book written in only a month !

This is the first (of the few) of Dostoyevskys works where the ending lets the work down. You can tell that he really was rushed while writing this.

Although I admit that this book had great moments (I really enjoyed Granny gambling), at times it felt like he just regurgitated his thoughts and ended up with this as the finished product. You can completely tell that he wrote this in 26 days.Dostoyevsky was nevertheless very entertaining and the slave/master relationship between Alexey and Polina was brilliant when contrasted with gambling,...more
