I enjoy the Reacher series, but found this one labored and too contrived. The coincidences became too much and Reacher as Prince Hamlet ("do I get involved?") did not work. Finally, his endless descriptions of the Texas landscape added little; it's not his strength. It was as if Lee Child tried to hard to capture an environment that he did not know. Finally, his endless descriptions of the Texas landscape added little; it's not his strength. It was as if Lee Child tried to hard to capture an environment that he did not know. Made me think of Elmore Leonard's advice to take out the parts people skip over. Also made me think of James Lee Burke, who does landscapes well.
