A terrific book, if not a little difficult at times (hey, Stephen Hawking is one of the smartest guys on the planet after all. The discussion of black holes, worm holes, and how things are caught in the threshold of the even horizon is especially intriguing.

a great book for a layman to understand the mysteries of space and time

Wasn't quite sure how to review this. I wanted to write something along the line: "entertaining and worth a read, but I didn't understand much of it". Even with an engineering degree and some interest in physics I didn't quite get it. Then I saw Pauls comment below and that sums it up nicely: "Best book I've never understood".
