I have always thought that famous love story characters and love stories of all time (except for those authors who were born before the Bronte sisters) rooted from Wuthering Heights. I have seen a lot of characters with the same attitude as the lead character, Heath, the same melodramtic endings and tragedies yet very powerful, it just simply moves your soul.I have always been a fan of this book...more

The most wonderful book in the world. I have read none to top it. Mis Bronte is an amazing author. A story of love like no other. It feels like some of it is my own story , the part of a lost love. I am sure everyone feels that, at different times in their life, but none with more passion of longing and terrible loss, in the world than that of Wuthering Heights, It makes you wonder where this...more

This book has been on my TBR pile for quite some time and I finally got to it at the end of 2006, and I continued my themed reading by tackling Changing Heaven. This doesn't happen often, but despite hating almost all the characters (with the exception of nelly), I really enjoyed this book (I am sure not for the same reasons others like it, though).I have a hard time understanding why...more

I think this was a beautiful albeit somewhat dark story... and it is surprisingly endearing. And despite watching several movie versions, never found one that was as good as the book (although it is a bit of a slow read the first go around, and is one of those books that benefits greatly from a reread--not really complex or anything just a little hard to follow at moments due to the...more

What a piece of shit. This bullshit is considered a classic? I nearly killed myself for having read it. I didn't even technically finish its so fucking horrible. I have never read a book more devoid of anything representing something resembling a discernable plot with a protagonist(s) who I actually care about. Nothing happened in this book. Its like from beginning to end it's...more

And the English moors make their entrance. What can one expect from a writer who as a child was put into her father's library for her time outs. Great writing! Mature and self-assured, I guess Bronte never wanted our minds and hearts to fall in love with Cathy and Heathcliff as if they were two kids we would want to hang out with. She preferred to make us squirm and our eyes widen. Yet unless the...more

Compare with Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte the latter is more attractive to me. I first read it as a junior in high school, although whenever I tell people Wuthering Heights is oen of my favorite book I usually get a strange reaction. Heathcliff and Catherine are both characters that are very defectived; Catherine is selfish and spoiled, Heathcliff is...more

"'May she wake in torment!' he cried, with frightful vehemence, stamping his foot, and groaning in a sudden paroxym of ungovernable passion. 'Why she's a liar to the end! Where is she? Not there - not in heaven - not perished- where? Oh, you said you cared nothing for my sufferings? And I pray one prayer - I repeat it till my tongue stiffens - Catherine Earnshaw, may you not rest as long as I...more

A mysterious work of doomed romance, depressing landscapes, and Gothic moods. How can this possibly NOT work? The story immediately draws you in with a nameless traveler who finds himself needing a place to stay. Here he enters a house of definite spookiness and becomes wrapped up in the incredible story of its history. This is not a happy book, but it's intriguing, exciting, and darkly...more

Though often described as a great classic of romance and love, this novel's appeal for me had nothing to do with the characters. Mean-spirited to the point of self-destruction, the characters are barely tolerable. Yet it is a very romantic book; the power comes not from the people but from the setting. The characters, despite all the barriers they throw up between themselves, are...more
