well executed Story by LEON URIS , based on on a rue story the history adn formation of the Israel nation .and what it means to the new world today .

Leaon Uris writes in a way that makes it hard to believe that you are actually learning something, but I walked away with a much deeper sense of what has driven conflict over the past 60 years in Isreal and the middle east. I found reading this book incredibly difficult and I don't think I will read historical fiction again. When the facts are so important to such historical injustices, you almost take everything you read with a grain of salt. I found reading this book incredibly difficult and I don't think I will read historical fiction again. When the facts are so important to such historical injustices, you almost take everything you read with a grain of salt. In saying that I can see why this book has drawn many to the Jewish cause - it is strongly written and very persuasive. I had mixed feelings and felt that many of the views put forward bordered on propaganda and were not helpful. I'm not panning it as a work of fiction. I just know now that I need to read a non-fiction book to get what I need - to place the settlement of the Jewish people in context with the displacement of the Palestinians.   hide

Compelling and engaging. Does a good job explaining the events that lead up to the birth of Israel. Great characters.

A powerful and disturbing book. Not upbeat but a true story....Disheartening..

This must be one of the most well-written book ever.....it simply takes you straight into the world that these poor people lived in ... a world that they were subjected to....then there is always that element of wondering whether its fact or fiction...cause it isnt based on some random scenario these things actually happened and much worse ....and apart from the authors' skills it addressed such...more

First 'serious' book I read as a teenager... was hooked from the first page. Excellent. Need to read it again.
