Definately an awesome book. I\'ve read the entire series and I love it. The last two books were written over 20 years after the first 3, so there is a notable difference in Asimov\'s style. He focuses more on character development in these books. So for those of you who found his writing a bit dry, Foundation\'s Edge and Foundation and Earth will be much more palatable. There is a bit of an introdcution to the series at the beginning, so if you don\'t wish to read the whole series but find these two books interesting, then you can without missing out on too much. Really though, if you do that you will probably find yourself going back over the previous books just to gain a better appreciation of it.   hide

After reading the Foundation trilogy, I was ready to jump into this and see what Asimov did with this story years after the original. *spoilers* I really enjoyed the first section of this book...intrigue, plot twists, who is part of the second foundation?, what's the mayor up to?, how do the developing stories blend together? I ultimately was disappointed in the ending. There's this complicated galaxy Asimov has created. But all of a suddent the 3 Laws of robotics jump in. I loved the robot stories, but to suddenly fling this into the entire development of the foundation books just seemed too contrived. It's like Asimov just felt like he had to combine these two realms. Didn't work for me though. I still want to finish out the Foundation series though.   hide

Like all of Asimov's Foundation books, this one introduces different characters that are interrelated and presents the story from their individual points of view. This technique works well, and everytime I finished a chapter, I wanted to read just one more, then just one more again.

I've been hearing of Asimov since like forever, but stayed away because they said he wrote science fiction...and I hate science (because I'm no good at it?) I picked this book just out of curiosity a few weeks ago...and loved it! Asimov is a genius. Definitely worth a read.
