Ack, my copy is from the 70's so my cover is not like this at all. To classify "I, Robot" as sci-fi or even as a psychological thriller would be to minimalize it. After reading each story, you'll sit back and think, "Dear God . . . wow!" Isaac Asimov uses artificial intelligence to reflect the human psyche in a brilliant manner.   hide

I saw the movie first, and had heard the book was vastly different, because it is. It's a shame the screenwriter didn't do a more faithful adaptation, because the connected vignettes that make up the novel are interesting, thoughtful and suck you in. The prose, which I expected to be as cold as the robots of the novel, I found to be surprisingly warm and detailed, without getting too elaborate. Definitely a must read for sci-fi fans, although I'd say the first chapter, about the robot nursemaid, is a good read for anyone.   hide

Good introduction to chaos theory. Contains several thought experiments to show that a seemingly simple set of obvious rules can create complicated problems. On one hand, it's fun science fiction, easy to read, and smart without being pretentious - the best kind. On the other hand, it's a commentary on politics, religion, and ethical quandries in the manner of the old Twilight Zone theory - commentary hidden behind cool fiction. This simple book shows why Asimov is without an equal in the scifi world.   hide
