Ok, I'm not going to finish this. I've read 20 pages of descriptions of things and no story so far. He's good at describing and pointing out how art has changed but I don't feel like reading 300 pages of it.. putting it away.

With all the dreck being offered by post-moderns, emergents, and other disillusioned evangelicals about understanding our current generation, why not read an author who was a master at this craft...and who learned how to write to his generation about their generation? Read all the Tom Wolfe you can get.

Incredibly good! Who else but Tom Wolfe could pour out an intellectually brilliant and objective reportage on a topic like the history of stock car racing without losing the balls full out heart and joy of it. Mr Wolfe displays the same genius and investment in detail in this collection of short "sub-culture" pieces that made his later novels such masterpieces.
