Vampires on the Mississippi, and yes, you can read it several times, and it's still good. A classic. Anne Rice, eat your heart out.

A wonderful tale of life on the Mississippi in 19th century, of freedom and slavery, of great steamboats and a very special friendship. Oh, and there are vampires, too. :)
