My favorite Allende book! It's concisely written, has good plot twists and is told from multiple perspectives that uncanningly come together in the end. even better in spanish!

It has been a while since I've read an Isabel Allende book.  Her style and prose is always enjoyable, and I'm always sobered when I read about life under the Pinochet regime.  This book reminds me quite a bit of House of Spirits (which I think I would recommend more highly).  This one was very good.  But House of Spirits remains the classic to read, in my opinion.
