Flags of Our Fathers (Movie Tie-in Edition)

This book made me realize just how young the marines were who fought in the Pacific. Most of them had just finished high school and were sent off to fight on a small island far from home. This book gives you everything. You learn about the six men who raised the flag, the savagery of the battle itself, and the aftermath of the 3 survivors dealing with fame. One of my favorites.

On of the best book's written. Tell's the real life's of real people that were put in a position only one of them wanted to be in. ( The war bond drive)

couldn't finish. Too slow a read for me.

Simply the best! It's as simple as that.

Once again a movie ruined what I had read. Great collection of human stories all banded together on one fateful day.

Actually I have it on audio but it is simply a wonderful lesson on courage.

I didn't expect to like this "history" book, but I really enjoyed it.

I was wary at first and it sat on the bedside table (how much death and destruction can you read just before dreaming?) Well - the personal is political seems to fit. This book is a truly personal view of one bit of WWII. I am glad I didn't see the movie - landing on the beach was horrific. Still the details that the news didn't make right are worth the read.
