The amount of character development and the manipulation going on between all the individual characters makes this a much more emotionally-driven episode in the Dune Saga. Easily a much better novel than its predecessor. The amount of character development and the manipulation going on between all the individual characters makes this a much more emotionally-driven episode in the Dune Saga. People who continue to deny these books their rightful place in the series because they are supposedly "not up to the standard" set by Frank Herbert should re-read the originals. There is only one real difference in narrative style: Frank just tends to let us know what individuals are thinking more often, but that's about it.   hide

the middle of the Dune House trilogy is interesting and keeps you riveted with battle over IX.

Just as good as the previous sequel, and I can't wait to get on to the last one, House Corrino.It's so interesting to find out what all the characters in the first Dune novel are up to years before we first met them in that breakthrough novel.The inside information on how they got to be in their positions, who these people really are, their backgrounds... it's all fantastic. Great...more
