An admirable addition to Conan's Cannon. With extra points for being a guilty pleasure for all those who wanted to see some woman besides Irene Adler get her digs in.

I love the Mary Russell books. Holmes is just so... Holmes, and Mary is an excellent match for him. This is a good one.

Not a fan of feminist Christianity. The writing, slow and plodding, is very reminiscent of ACD's longer Holmes' stories, but too much feminist propaganda and not enough Sherlock in this one for me.

I like the story and I really enjoy how King constructs mysteries...she's just fun to read (and informative too, her being such a religious scholar).

Was surprised that King employed the predictable tactic of having Mary and Holmes get married quite so early in the series, but perhaps she didn't know she was going to write so many. It seems like there are a ton following this one, and I'll be interested to see what she does with the relationship to sustain it throughout the series.

Every Laurie King novel about Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes is a favorite read. King writes with an intelligence about her characters and the places and times in which they operate that elevates these mysteries to a high level of enjoyment.
