I picked up this book because I'd had it recommended to me by a friend, and the name just kept popping up everywhere I went, and it intrigued me... However, I don't particularly like the cover, and that's what made me hesitant. I know that's horrible, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. You definitely shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.

I read this mostly looking forward to the romance between Seregil and Alec, but that doesn't actually come in until the second book... Even so, I quickly found myself immersed in the book, and really enjoying the plot. Though some of it was difficult to get through, I really loved reading this book, and I felt like I was living in it as the character (Alec). Since then, I quickly bought the rest of the Nightrunner series, and it has become my second favorite book series next to Harry Potter. :]
I would recommend this for people who like fantasy, but also greatly enjoy characters by themselves and their development... People who don't really like reading fantasy, with heavy battles and magic, probably wouldn't be interested in it other than perhaps the romance aspect of it, though I do think they could read it exclusively for the brilliant characters... Also, those who have a problem with same sex relationships (m/m) probably wouldn't enjoy this book as the main relationship is between two men.
