For whatever reason, although I had thought it sounded interesting, actually watching Tobin struggle with his sexuality knowing he was actually a girl began to get annoying quickly, mostly because so much of it dealt with how Tobin loved Ki but he was unsure if he should like Ki because Tobin wanted to be a boy but he knew he was a girl and he would keep feeling guilty about enjoying girl stuff...more

For whatever reason, although I had thought it sounded interesting, actually watching Tobin struggle with his sexuality knowing he was actually a girl began to get annoying quickly, mostly because so much of it dealt with how Tobin loved Ki but he was unsure if he should like Ki because Tobin wanted to be a boy but he knew he was a girl and he would keep feeling guilty about enjoying girl stuff but he really, really loved Ki but was it in THAT way because Ki obviously like girls but Tobin is really a girl but he did not want to be because it was fated but did he? This circular mental angst, which is more forgivable in a small child, goes on and on and on till Tobin is of alligance-worthy age and when Tobin is put into a situation of real danger, he acts decisively and bravely and makes everyone deliriously proud. These two versions of Tobin were more conflicting then the two more concrete images of Tobin and Brother. Alben and Mago and Moriel and Niryn and Orun were boringly routinely villainly. The competition Tobin faces comes from Korin and Erius and maybe Nalia and all of them, despite their good points, are overwhelmingly portrayed as pathetic that there is no conflict of choice who should be the true ruler of Skala.   hide
