This is the first historical book I ever read that actually gave me nightmares. Wake Island was a small American outpost in the Pacific during WWII. Several hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Wake Island was also attacked by the nation of Japan. This is the story of how brave American civilians and marines fought off a supierior navel force for 30 days with no suppies, reinforments, and no possiblity of retreat. In the end, they were ordered to surrender. Hence the title of the book. A must read. This is a history forgotten.   hide
