This is my second time reading this book (now that the third installment is out (YES!!) I’m re-reading the first two), and where I found the re-reading of "Prodigal Son" to be not quite as magical, "City of Night" definitely was, and more so. In trilogies, I find the middle chapter to be a bit slow at times, because the writers/creators are so busy setting up plot points for the third. I think this is how I felt with the first run-through of "City of Night," but this time I was able to more thoroughly enjoy it and realize just what a great storyteller Koontz is. While he has many parallel storylines going on simultaneously, he is able to differentiate them very distinctly with well-developed characters (even the minor ones) and keeping the chapters short, which helps to keep things moving quickly.
