This book should have a 5 star rating. King is a beautiful writer, she has created a fascinating series with Mary Russell, but she drags this otherwise interesting tale on too many unrelated and unnecessary tangents so often I almost gave up on the story several times. Holmes discovers he has a son who needs his help...

This was a good addition to the series, despite the annoying "to be continued" ending.  Lots more Mary than Holmes in this one, which is fine with me.

I love Laurie King as an author... this newest Mary Russell novel did not disappoint.  I loved the story line of the mystery of the bees, and the ending with the promise of a future story line for Mary and Estelle.

I couldn't put it down... I think I like Russell/Holmes *best* in England - also liked the Russell-in-solitude and Russell-on-the-topic-of-religion that drew me to the series in the first place & which have been somewhat lacking in all the Important Events of the last few novels.  Loved it!

Entertaining. However hated the ending. Also I think much more could have been done with disagreement between Mary and Holmes over Damian's guilt. The bee mystery I thought had a very unsatisfactory explanation and not the greatest explanation/details for the major death/murder. Maybe that will be dealt with in Part 2?

Love the series, but this latest addition lags a bit, not enough interaction between Holmes and Mary. They were off on different searches. I like it better when they work together.
