I read this book in junior high, and it was such a great departure from the fluff that was required of me to read for school. Fifteen years later, I recently started thinking about this book again. I did not enjoy this book it seemed to have one tone throughout the entire story. It never seemed to progress or reach a climax. Not one of my favorites.

This book represents a progressive view of mental illness in 1969. Lisa's illness is not mentioned but is probably manic depression. She goes off on a vacation at the end of the book, but it is probably to a state mental hospital. This was a daring book for its time, as mental illness was not talked about then.
