This is a great historical-fiction book on the infamous Queen Victoria. Even though this is fiction, the author (Jean Plaidy) did do some research so there is some realism in the novel. It's a great summer (or anytime) read and Queen Victoria really comes to life in this book. I could hardly put it down! I loved it and you will too.

This book was really amazing!Ms.Plaidy has used the language very beautifully and her choice to narrate the story in the first person was superb because it made the story much more interesting. I especially enjoyed the parts about her childhood and her life with Prince Albert. It was filled with happiness and also sorrow. I enjoyed the book very much!

Wonderful memoir of Queen Victoria's life. All the family members can be a bit confusing so read up on them before reading the book. The portrayal of Prince Albert as a saint can be tedious, but you will come to absolutely adore Lord Melbourne in this novel. A great read!

Epic historical fiction novel written in the first person by Queen Victoria. Compelling, believable, and worth the time investment.

I enjoy Victoria/Jean's historical novels but more as an educational tool than a good romp. For historical fiction they can be very dry. I realize this was a retelling of Victoria's life but it's like gun in the face, give birth, gun in the face, give birth. Meh.

Good book if you like history written with a twist of fiction. It took awhile to read, but was enjoyable. Learned a lot about the era I didn't know. A good companion to the movie Mrs. Brown.

While Plaidy's writing isn't terrible, I couldn't help but be near endlessly frustrated with Victoria after Albert came into her life. She was insufferable as she described her and her husband's dealings with their oldest son. She is proud to say that Albert should never forget that she is queen, but he demands a conformity in her thinking and her mannerisms and her independence that somewhat...more

Mainly about Victoria's personal life. Not as much about historical events that happened during her reign.
