more The Hobbit is an amusing book, outlandishly so, considering that it is the prequel to the dark The Lord of the Rings (yes, I say one-- one book-- Tolkien always maintained that The Lord of the Rings is one book). Some of our favorite characters from the Lord of the Rings debut in this book, as do other wonderful creatures. Giant, regal eagles, powerful, quirky wizards, odd but loveable hobbits, elusive and long-living elves, huge and terrible spiders... the book is chock full of mystical and engaging characters. A number of amusing rhymes and fantastic escapes give life to this book, and, while the plot itself is great, it is the incredible character interaction that really brings this book to the level of a 5 out of 5.
