A true classic romp. Probably best read before you turn 14, but not too much before. That way you can pick up the LoTR trilogy immediately afterwards. My father read The Hobbit to us when I was about 9 or 10, I think. I kept reading ahead as it wasn't going fast enough for me ;). This book was a very fun read. I didn't realize when I started reading it that it's actually a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It features Bilbo, Gandalf, Elrond, Gollum, and a lot of other characters that are mentioned in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
