This book was a very fun read. I didn't realize when I started reading it that it's actually a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It features Bilbo, Gandalf, Elrond, Gollum, and a lot of other characters that are mentioned in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. This has always been considered a kids book, but I believe that people of all ages would enjoy this story and especially fans of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I heard that a movie version is supposed to be coming out in a couple of years. There are rumors that Ian Holmes has agreed to return as Bilbo and that Ian Mclellan is supposed to return as Gandalf. Viggo Mortenson also said in an article I read that he would very much like to be involved and featured in the film. I will search the Internet to see if I can find any updated news on the movie   hide

A wonderful introduction to the world of Middle Earth, The Hobbit presents a world of magic, song and mystical tradition. I first read The Hobbit right before Peter Jackson's "Fellowship of the Ring" came out in theaters. I loved it and read the Lord of the Rings series within a couple of weeks. The first time I read it, I was somewhat distracted and even bored by the poems and songs throughout the book, but upon a second reading, I found them as an integral part of the style of writing that has made Tolkien's works so enjoyable. If you enjoyed the movies, or have a particular affinity to fantasy, The Hobbit is a wonderful read.   hide

Re-reading this book (this time slower xD) I realize that I want to read this book my to my children. This is the kind of story that needs nothing more. In a hole in the ground there live a hobbit. One that didn't know how amazingly brave, kind and yet little he was. One who stepped out of his door and traveled the unknown world, only to discover himself out there. And by returning, finding himself changed, yet still moved by the same feelings. This is flawless, in every single aspect of the word. I will re-read this book throughout my life, I just know it. If I'll read it to myself or to my children or to someone else it doesn't matter, I will still be amazed by it every time I pick it up. One day, I'll read this book to my children <3 beautiful book, couldn't stop reading...   hide

I loved this book as a kid and still love it. If I ever have kids, they will have it read to them too. "It was all that wealth that BROUGHT the Dragon!" SO much more subtle and meaningful than Narnia, which is more just for kids. The Hobbit can be re-read as an adult and understood even better.
