Read this over my summer break for a little light reading. I think it helps to have seen the movie and to be honest, I think Tolkien wasted his time constantly describing where everything was in Middle earth. I never fully understood the map even after seeing it. And the addendum stuff makes me think that Tolkien was just a little bit crazy. Who makes up their own language? Even so, the trilogy was epic and pretty awesome and the ending in the book was better than in the movie.   hide

I love how Tolkien portrays the weary Frodo, as he returns home, and everyone around him hasn't changed, and he is unalterably changed by his experiences. The psychology in these books, as well as the level of detail in every map, and each of the languages Tolkien created, awes me.

This is a book that i will return to again and again. A brilliant book!

Have read this series at least 6 times and still don't understand why people are crazy about it - it is a good series but that is it.
