Astounding vocabulary. Had to keep a piece of paper and pen handy to look up his words. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys travel books or clever observational musings.

I loved this journey so much I will be reading this again ... might take it with me on my own train journey on the Trans-Sib later this year. If you ever wondered what it's like to spend days, weeks and months travelling, meeting interesting (and strange) people then read this book. What impressed me is that he wrote his notes by hand in notebooks ... so different for us today...more
