An incredible book. Though it's an individual book it's inseparable from the 'Lord of the Rings' as it involves the discovery of the 'One Ring’. The PLOT-Bilbo Baggins, a peace loving ‘Hobbit’ who enjoys his food and drink is forced to accompany Gandalf the grey and a company of dwarfs on adventure to the ‘Lonely Mountain’ as they attempt to recover their chiefs lost inheritance from the savage Dragon ‘Smaug’ on their journey they encounter trolls, forest elf’s, doubt, madness, a hellishly pathetic creature called, Gollum and most horrifying (to Baggins) hunger! the book climaxes with Bilbo unexpectedly becoming the hero to the ‘Battle of the Five –Armies’.Finaly Bilbo returns to his home*in the shire with impressive loads of wealth that arouses the suspicion of the other hobbits, and continues to the Lord of the rings-fellowship of the ring that explain the importance of the One Ring. Bilbo's tale as seen from his point of view, a marvelous introduction to the world of Middle Earth.

A true classic.

Very charming intoduction into Tolkein's Middle Earth. Although written as a childrens novel, the story has enough depth and complexity with universal themes on heroism and greed that will appeal to adults. I loved this book as a child and love it still as an adult. "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world..."

C-Review of: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. My father says never ruin a good movie by reading the book. I gambled knowing Peter Jackson was back to making the movie. I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys adventures and all 9 year olds. Make sure you sing and dance just like the dwarfs & goblins. Dad…don’t worry. I have no plans to read the Lord of the Rings. Thumbs Up.

I felt pretty ashamed that i hadn't taken the time to read this book in the past. I enjoyed the wittiness that Tolkien incorperated. I'm looking foward to reading on into the rest of the series.
