such a beautiful book ! the flow of rhythm and energy is like music, probably a mahler symphony which you can visualise as a circle. it begins, it catches up, becomes passionate, and slowly ebbs away.

Important. Elucidating. Moving. "Liking it" is irrelevant.

A beautiful novel. This could also be some of the finest revolutionary writing ever produced.

About a strike... Nana's brother. Only good when the killin starts.

I hated it as much as I loved it...if that makes any sense to you. Depressing but there's a lot to learn in Zola's words.

My into-level European History course in college was a bit dry, but this book was the highlight. Who knew having sex while trapped in a coal mine could be so interesting!
