more The most depressing book I've ever read, this story of compassion throws every rock at you. Its language startles and amazes me even after reading it several times over. Coffey, a convicted murderer and rapist with the ability for great magic and healing. Such opposite ends connected by a terrifying and horrific untruth.
One of Stephen King's best, you won't be able to put it down once you start, its conviction is true in meaning but cruel in its execution. Each character in this novel seems to reach out and touch you through the pages, their hearts and minds imprinted on it for lifetimes to come. Someday this book will be picked up and read, far into the future it will entertain readers even then, still connecting to our sense of belief in magic and the sympathetic thoughts still held like in Coffey's child-like being. Don't expect to feel joy and warmth from this novel, it is a horrific account of how mankind can be so cruel to each other.
