one of the best book i have ever read. i is acoming of age story that includes a mystery, elements of magical realism, and the true meaning of family. there are some elements that remind me of faulkner amd some that remind me of a children's book. a definte read for anyone who likes a well written novel.

This is a fantastic book and currently my favorite! I love how McCammon captures the essence of childhood and how precious it is. I love the metaphors he uses for life, his beautiful storytelling and brilliant writing makes this book a treasure to read!

While I have several 'favorite' books - this is one of a kind in the sense that I can sit down and read it straight through over and over and over again, and each time take something new from having done so. McCammon does a terriffic job of recapturing the magic and innocence of childhood for his readers, while still keeping the plot line and social intricacies suitable for adults.
