An amazing graphic tale of Spiegelman's fathers experience in Poland in Nazi Germany. The anthropomophic use points out the stupidity at the heart of societal classifications that we as humans tend to use to frame out religious and national identities.

INCREDIBLE. Sickening, as it should be for the subject matter; poignant, truthful, wrenching. Even funny at times as he deals with his aging father, and lovingly written and illustrated. A masterpiece in graphic novel form. One of the best and hardest (emotionally) books to read.

A comic book treatment of the holocaust, that somehow manages to feel more honest, more immediate, and more painful than I would have thought possible through any medium.
