The best Holocaust story I have read by far; deeply moving, real, honest and courageous. This story proves that in situations of scarcity and terror, humanity can prevail if we are willing to still stay human and not be overwhelmed by externals. I think drawing Jews as mice, Germans as cats, Poles as pigs and the Americans as dogs were an accurate and powerful portrayal of the entire event.

"Maus" might be the greatest proof against people who think graphic novels aren't literature. It's chilling, sad, funny, beautiful to look at, and above all else shockingly real. Both parts of the story, Vladek's experiences in the Holocaust and his modern day relationship with his son, compliment each other beautifully, showing a full portrait of the author's father as both resourceful survivor...more

I never thought i would take so much from a graphic novel as i have from MAUS. It is such a stiring read you cant help but be dranw into the story as you read it. It is so deep! With the graphic scenes the story comes alive and entices the reader to read untill the finish. Love this book.

If you're not really up to depressing yourself too much by reading a big thick book about the Holocaust, you can at least somewhat kid yourself into thinking this isn't quite so depressing by picking up this graphic novel inspired by a man's true story (warning, the facade doesn't last long, it's just as heartbreaking as any book about the same topic).

Wow. The Holocaust as a story best told as a comic strip... who knew! Wow. A must read.

An amazing graphic tale of Spiegelman's fathers experience in Poland in Nazi Germany. The anthropomophic use points out the stupidity at the heart of societal classifications that we as humans tend to use to frame out religious and national identities.

This is by far the best thing I have ever read, watched or seen about the holocaust. Though the premise may seem odd, it works perfectly. Not only does it convey the cruelty of the Nazis, it also shows the warts-and-all resourcefulness, courage and, at times, ruthless survival instinct of Spiegelman's father. Shocking, moving and hugely interesting, I thoroughly recommend this to one and all.
