Of course, the Inferno is the most engaging part... by the time you get to Heaven, things are looking a little dull. But still, a classic and incredibly imaginative work, and is used for so much symbolism it gives you a great foundation.

This is again, not especially entertaining, but its historical significance is undeniable, and the narrative is rather interesting with its inclusion of historical characters which were both past and present at the time of its writing. This is truly a literary classic. Anybody interested in medieval philosophy should read this, and not just Inferno. Whereas I don't believe that Dante's views of Heaven, Hell, and Purgartoy are correct, and I throughouly do not agree with his view of Heaven, I enjoyed reading this book, and highly recommend it. Also, read this with a map of each place, which can be googled, it greatly helps...more

I've never thought I'll enjoy 14,000 lines of medieval poetry, but I did. I recommend Allen Mandelbaum's translation.
