Too long, slow start.

The mystery of politics.

A very pleasant read and writing style by Mr. Canin. I enjoyed his jumping between the present and the past memories of the story's hero. Truly a wonderful tale of a bygone era.

I had high hopes for this book, but in the end found it to just be okay. I found the narration of Corey to be interesting as it jumped back and forth from his teen years in NY small town during the 1970's to his adult days. The relationship with Trieste, the intern, could have been detailed more as well as his later relationship with Clara. That one kind of surprised me.
