Glad I finally forced myself to read it but never, never again. Who the hell ends a book with an eighty page sentence?

Yes I finished it yes and the months were going by and yes I could do it yes i did yes. the total destruction of style by style, disposing of so much modernism by making it all a hat trick, a goof, an exercise, a filigree. It is earnest and lewd and clever and tedious and sublime.

Essential. Getting a true version of Ulysses into print apparently hasn't happened yet. I am persuaded the three-volume Hans Walter Gabler critical edition (1984) and Gabler's one-volume Ulysses: The Corrected Text (1986) have made the problem worse. Still, I come across Joyceans ( I do not claim that term for myself) who are completely sold on the Gabler edition. Not me. Until the true...more
