The story is quaint but what makes this book a must-read are the subsueqnet short atories...especially A Christmas Memory and A DIamond Guitar, which is only slightly diminished in its brilliance in its Of Mice and Men sensibilities. This book reflects the possibilitiues that the English language can be evocative, beautiful and vulgar unlike any other language.

Another great example of story telling through a secondary character. Would have loved about 300 more pages of this book.

I really loved this book. Truman Capote has that style of writing which one either hates or absolutely loves, and I love it. Holly Golightly is probably one the most inspiring movie characters from my childhood. She's free, random, and seems to have the "live each day to the fullest" kind of attitude. The film "Breakfast at Tiffany's" is more impressive than book.

Read the book first, then watch the film. Audrey Hepburn's choices in her portrayal of Holly Golightly will make a whole lot more sense if you do so. Unfortunately, because the film came from the Hollywood mainstream of its era, much of the grittiness and honesty of Capote's novella are taken out. Plus, the stupid happy ending of the film makes me ill. Not what Capote wanted.

A cute story that's a bit different from the movie. Could you imagine Holy as Marylin Monroe instead of Audrey Hepburn? Amazingly, the book has an action set piece that is not in the movie, usually its the other way around. I like the Diamond Guitar, one of the included short stories.
