Very dark and depressing, but beautifully written (at only 23 years old)--he seems to have been "old beyond his years". His descriptions of the South, while some may have been magnified/embellished, were very true. Good read.

One of the few books I've read that I actually can't remember a single point about the plot. Either I had a lot on my mind at the time I was reading it, or I just couldn't find it interesting. I think it's the latter.

Well if this wasn't a little creepy, I don't know what! Capote's debut novel caused quite the stir when it hit the shelves in 1948. Part Southern Gothic; part coming out story; part just plain weird, this is a great read. Young Joel is called to come live with his father after his mother dies.
