Love travel writing and Pico Iyer is simply a magician when it comes to describing his travels. Very picturesque and yet he doesn't miss a detail. Feeds my wanderlust everytime.

Pico Iyer has one of the best eyes for travel you'll ever encounter.  This former Time Magazine writer focuses his pen on some of the budding places on the globe in the mid-80's.  Dry sometimes, hilarious at others, its a great read for anyone who digs SMART travel literature.

great book of short stories for the young globe trotters -- observes more than he partakes.  Like a Kerouac who goes further abroad, but with virtual rubber gloves on.

Full of eloquent insights into Asia in the 80's.  It's a pleasure to read Pico Iyer's prose, and it's an adventure to visit the places he's been to through his eyes and pen.

The first and only really good travel book (collection of stories) that he's written. He never captures that spirit of capturing the moment in words in his later works. Kind of a shame because he can write so well.

I love Pico Iyer's writing - this book tells of a young Asian-American's journeys throughtout Asia in the mid-80s. Interesting stuff for people who are interested in travel and Asia in particular.
