Selected stories, some sad, some not - always wistful. If had to correlate with a movie it would be Baghdad Cafe w/its haunting song, "I am Calling You".

For the PMFA class. Carver pokes under the hood of "normal" American life and exposes all its unattractive facets in what can only be described as the tidiest way possible. How can a writer discuss such ugly things with such neat language? That's what makes him a good one.

Quite simply, this book made me want to write on my own. "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love" is one of the greatest short stories ever written.

These stories are just as good as they were 20 years ago when I read them the first time. Especially "A Small, Good Thing"--one of the best of all American short stories.

Emotional journey through stories about the lives we all live that was, for me, filled with profound, breathtaking moments of recognition. We all travel, live, read and constantly change, but the laughter, the sighs, the hurts and the screams of others I heard here drew me closer. Closer than I wished. My hands shook. I will return to these places.

Questa edizione presenta, finalmente in una nuova traduzione, molti classici carveriani come "Cattedrale", "Vitamine", "Di cosa parliamo quando parliamo d'amore"; e alcuni racconti che Carver volle proporre nella versione...more

I had to read "Cathedral" in my writing class. Raymond Carver became one of my favorite writers. This collection has some wonderful stories that I can read over & over again.

This would be a favorite of mine if all of the stories were of the same quality. They're all fantastic, but some stand out even more than others. Carver has a wonderful way of telling a story without spelling out it's heart. Sometimes he's vague, and sometimes it's almost superficial, but in both cases he forces the reader to digest. This collection shows how Carver's method...more
