An inspirational story from someone who had a ridiculously complicated and tough upbringing and ended up accomplishing far more than most people can claim. But in addition to a good story I thought the writing was fantastic and the unabashed excitement about scholarly/intellectualism inspiring.
A beautifully written piece about growing up in Australia. Conway is clearly an intelligent woman who had few opportunities to contribute to Australian society in the 1950s, leading her down an alternative path.
A coming of age type of story. Her intelligence, ability to put her own experience into a much larger context, combines with a gift for charming with the details makes this a personal fav.
