Very enjoyable, but it reminded me of Graves's "I, Claudius" and "Claudius the God" books-- both are more accurately historical fiction than "Rome", and still miles better than any TV drama. If you like "Rome", check out the Claudius books (the third in Graves's trilogy, "King Jesus", wasn't nearly as good). Never mind Western Civ 101-- after you read them, you'll remember the order of the Roman emperors, because Graves makes them such unforgettable characters.
