Actually a second reading, but the first time, Facebook was just a glimmer in the mainframe of a supercomputer. A superb combination of historical detective work, travelogue and social anthropology.

Will challenge your thinking of a travel novel, and its stories will stick to your memory like Cairo dust...

..a bit on the tedious side...but it does well to invoke a time when the Indian Ocean was the world....

Have I missed something??? I don't find this book the least bit exciting....I can see mixed reviews...I don't get it....

I don't think Mr. Amitav Ghosh could ever write anything more compelling, humane and beautiful...one looks through his eyes not at a different land and culture but at the fact that humans are same across..a proof of the fact that there is no race/ caste of the mind; that we are all born to live and die and we all have the same prejudices and that we are all living the myth of sisyphus..
