This is one of the books that turned me into a socialist and added to my intense hatred of racism. It's an easy, fast read. It's also very digestible because it contains short stories -- which means you can pick it up whenever and put it down, then come back to it later without confusion.

Very powerful! The author has a way of cutting like a knife without a lot of intense imagery or embellishment. It's a great collection if you're wanting to get some emotion without a bunch of hogwash :). Plus, they're short stories, so it's easy, short reading. I suggest "Cora Unashamed."
I LOVE LOVE these stories. They are each so good. A great book to have on you're bookshelf because you can read and reread it again and again. Each of these short stories, on their own are more inspiring that entire other books I've read. This book will suck you in and transport you to another time and place.
