The Aenid (Vintage Classics)

This is only favorited because of Dido. Didn't dig the rest.

Not as enjoyable as the Illiad or the Odyssey, but still not too awful.

Fitzgerald, as always, translates the ancient poem into a modern version with power and music, but without feeling artificially "hip." The story of Aeneas' founding of Rome is a moving adventure, albeit a dark and haunted one. Must be read after the Iliad and Odyssey to make any sense (I also recommend the Fitzgerald translations of those works).
