One of the best pieces of fiction I have ever read, and I have no explanation as to why. Cather tells this story very well, and realistically.

I had to hide this book from myself so that I wouldn't finish it all in one sitting. I'm not exactly sure why it touched me...so many soft voices and so many different stories...I wondered how the Professor reconciled his seemingly mediocre life with himself...what had happened between him and the wife that he adored. Was he too smart for her...was it a simple case of growing apart? ...more
