Il ne deparie pas. I think Faulkner would almost be readable in French.

"There Will be Blood" in the mid-19th-century South. A heartrending story of a man's single-minded ambition gone way wrong and the effect on his family.

My favorite novel. A dark portrait of race in America that is still relevant. If you ever hope to understand this country - our dark and barely legible past - this is a must read. Literally changed my entire thinking on the role of the imagination in politics, history, etc. And beautiful, hypnotically dense writing.

One of the best novels ever written--a relentless examination of American hypocrisy and the contradictory motivations at the center of the American character.

This book rewards the patient reader. It took me 5 months to finish, but the last 150 pages went by in the last week. It's not a linear unwinding of events; it is a set of pictures. The pace is slow and the plot is constantly recycled as it develops. In the end you realize that everything happened just the way that it had to.
